Daria Carlin Long has joined Gelest, Inc., to lead Gelest’s personal care business. Reporting to Ed Kimble, Vice President of Product Management, Long is responsible for all aspects of the personal care business, including marketing, sales and product and distribution-channel management.

Gelest has introduced a unique range of dual-function poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) reagents that enable new approaches to PEGylation for bioconjugates, reduction of surface biofouling and formation of polymerizeable vesicles for drug transport. These “first of a kind” materials are heterobifunctional materials with an amine at one terminus and a choice of two different species at the other.

Vertasil® TM-L01 LIMONENYLTRISILOXANE from Gelest, Inc. has improved volatility and better solubility than caprylyl methicone. “Our evaluations showed that after 6 hours at 25°C, (77°F), 0.1 percent of the test sample evaporated vs. about 0.5 percent of caprylyl methicone,” said Ed Kimble, Gelest Vice-President of Product Management. “Therefore, cosmetics containing Versatil TM-L01 can stay on skin longer than the same formulation with caprylyl methicone.”

Gelest, Inc. has unveiled its new SIVATETM A610 activated amine functional silane, which improves adhesion, speeds reactivity and increases bond strength in packaging, polymer, micro-electronics and curing applications. Gelest offers SIVATE A610 activated amine silane for use as a tie-layer between organic and inorganic substrates in multi-layer packaging, a coupling agent for high speed epoxy adhesive bonding, phenolic resins, polyurethanes and polyamides, or a primer for high-speed UV-acrylated urethane cure systems.
