Hydrolyzable Polydimethylsiloxane
Polydimethylsiloxanes with hydrolyzable functionality react with water to produce silanols terminated fluids of equivalent or higher degrees of polymerization. Polymers with this category of reactivity are almost never directly hydrolyzed. Chlorine and dimethylamine terminated fluids are usually employed in ordered chain extension and block polymer synthesis, particularly urethanes and polycarbonates. Acetoxy and dimethylamine terminated fluids can also be used as unfilled bases for rapid cure RTVs.
