Plastics
Plastics are long chain polymers with near infinite applications. Most plastics have the following general characteristics: provides a high degree of resistance to chemicals, can act as thermal and electrical insulators, can be light and vary in strength, and can be processed into thin and/or intricate forms. Gelest, Inc. produces a number of organic compatible silicone fluids for use as lubricants for soft metals, as compatibilizing agents for silicone/hydrocarbon/fatty acid formulations in the lubricant and cosmetic industries. Gelest, Inc. produces silsesqueoxanes and special silicon containing polymers to enhance the mechanical properties of plastics after synthesis. Plasticizers such as organic compatible silicone fluids and conventional silicone fluids are available. In addition Gelest, Inc. offers a variety of silane coupling agents and silicones that are used as adhesion promoters, chain extenders, and capping agents in urethanes and acrylate systems. Conventional silicones are typically used as mold release agents and in PDMS (polydimethylsiloxanes) and RTV (room temperature vulcanization) systems.
