Gelest offers hybrid silicones (SiBRID®) with unique formulating and consumer benefits.
Conventional silicones (polyDiMethylSiloxanes) have been available to the personal care industry for many years. They offer a light dry lubricious feel but suffer from an inherent inability to formulate with water or oil based materials. Gelest offers polyDiEthylSiloxanes which present the formulator with greater cosmetic wax and oil compatibility combined with more body and cushion than standard polyDiMethyl fluids.
Trisiloxanes are light, dry emollients that offer the formulator greater organic compatibility than phenyl trimethicone. They are used to enhance slip and reduce tack in hair care, skin care and color cosmetics. The unique performance characteristics of this series are derived from modifying the alkyl chain length attached to a standard silicone oligomer. Trisiloxanes are consistent and homogeneous products.
The Alkyl-Arylalky Series takes the concept of hybridization one step further to supply the formulator with even more varied and useful benefits. By modifying the type and concentration of pendant groups along a silicone backbone, Gelest produces highly compatible and functional silicones with a rich emollient feel. For example, AM 118, Stearyl Methicone, gels a wide variety of cosmetic oils while maintaining slip and spreading properties. Alternately, PM 212, Lauryl Phenylpropyl DiMethicone, is a viscous, high refractive index silicone allowing the formulation of long wearing, emollient lip glosses and lipsticks.
The Fluorocarbon Silicone is a unique silicone with exceptional properties. By combining a fluorosilicone with submicron particles of PTFE and PHFP Gelest produces a highly lubricious gel for use alone or with oily binders in pressed powders, in powder foundations to render them resistant to oil breakthrough and in liquid foundations to aid spreading and blending with an improved residual feel and extended wear.
