Increasing industry demands for materials which are lighter, stronger and more thermally stable than those currently available has provided the incentive for developing advanced ceramics meeting these requirements.
Potential applications for advanced ceramics are numerous. They can be found in aerospace (gas turbine engine components), defense (ceramic armor), medical (replacement hip joints), microelectronic (wafer fabrication equipment) and optoelectronics (laser components), to name a few.
Gelest offers many products which can be used as precursors to the required advanced ceramic materials. These are mostly in the form of alkoxides or diketonates which are converted to the ceramic material by the sol gel process or thermolysis.
