Gelest has the unique capability to utilize in house developed silanes and silicones to modify pigment and filler surfaces to meet specific formulation requirements. Surface treatment can be used to enhance or to prevent wetting by a given vehicle by rendering a pigment hydrophilic or hydrophobic, lipophilic or lipophobic.
The functions of surface treatment in cosmetic formulations include:
- Improvement of skin feel
- Improvement in wetting
- Uniform color development
- Maximization of attainable pigment load
- Reduction in the amount of energy and time required for dispersion
- Passivation of the pigment surface to reduce physical and chemical interaction with the vehicle
